The Flat

the flat (the one with the green sign above the door is my building)

is it festive garland, or hiding mess?

I found my soldier girl she's so far away she makes my head spin around - Polyphonic Spree
I had a flat not terribly far from school, and about a 45 minute walk from Prince's Street (and I generally did walk, though once my parents came for the holidays we often took the bus instead). It was "cozy," except for the venting in the bathroom that made it at least as cold as the freezing temperatures outside, and the fact that the heater in the bedroom didn't work, only the heat in the other room, which I couldn't leave on much (I did, at least, get a proper heater for the bedroom finally). And then there was the washer/dryer hybrid in the kitchen as there was nowhere else to put it, that did not dry, so the living room/kitchen was often full of drying clothing arrayed around. And the entire lack of any sort of telephone, or even the outlet for it as far as I could find. And the fridge, in the closet, which didn't work at first. But really, all in all, a very nice little place. Oh, and the hard-as-rocks sofa in the living room, which was most of the furniture. And the bed. But still, a nice little place.

It being Christmas and all, we did go out and get a tree, live and in a bucket even. After the holidays we put it out by the road, and someone came along and took it- and not the garbage men either. I'm hoping it even now is thriving in it's new home.

Station Tavern

Just down the street from my flat was this adorable tavern. And mum loves trains.

First Flat

I lived in a different flat when I first got to Edinburgh. The first place I stayed was right in the shadow of Arthur's Seat, in a block of Council flats. The one I stayed in was privately owned and somewhat converted (its the building behind the tree, the flat encompassed part of the top two floors- however the windows to it are on the other side).
