Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations that year culminated in a concert with Boy George. Princes Street was blocked off, and to get in you had to have tickets. There were great big TV screens at either end for those who bought tickets into the area, but not to the concert, which was in the sunken Princes Gardens, with a great big stage. The opening act was the "Soul Kings"- very cheesy 70's covers, but fun, and a great warm up act for that kind of party.

The main event was Culture Club. I was somewhat towards the back, and attempting to take pictures with my digital camera. Some guys behind me saw what I was doing, and lifted me right up so I could get a better shot! The Scottish actor playing Boy George in the musical of his life also appeared on stage, and the two of them sang a couple of songs in duet.

The concert with Culture Club ended just before midnight so we could count down, and then the fireworks went off. 7,000 fireworks, over the 7 hills of the city, mostly being set off from the hill with the castle on top, which we were right below. An absolutely incredible show, with fireworks being set off from cannons all over the hill, and along the castle walls themselves.
